Title: The New Disproportionate Collapse Mitigation Standard

Type: Panel

Description:

For the past several years, SEI has been developing the first standard for disproportionate collapse mitigation for the private sector. The effort has involved contributions from individuals in academia, private practice, and government. Upon the writing of this session proposal in May 2023, the document has finished committee balloting, and is in publication. Likely, the document will be finished prior to the 2024 Structures Congress.

Chapter headings in the standard are: General Requirements, Definitions, Risk Assessment, Performance Criteria, Design and Analysis Approaches, Acceptance Criteria, Structural Detailing, Existing Buildings, and Performance Qualifications. The standard strives to be performance based.

For this session, a panel of leaders in the preparation of this standard will present the background for the document, summarize key features and provisions in the standard, and present the rationale for creating the standard and its likely impact on the building construction industry.
